STEEL FRAMING:
Steel framing is lighter in weight and much stronger than wood.  Steel is less affected by serious weather conditions and especially earthquakes.  The method used to attach the building to a standard poured foundation makes it almost impossible to seperate during trecherous weather.
The strength of steel incorporates a much wider variety of design with a flexibility for more open spaces, longer lengths for wall insulation and more success on softer soil without designing huge, expensive oversized footings.
Designing with steel framing creates unique open floor plans with higher and wider walls, rooms, balconies and ceilings.  Further, it creates a custom home in almost any shape.
Manufacturing in steel, because it is done by a machine, creates an extremely consistent building product.  This means the floors are more level, the roofline straight, and walls that are flat and ready for drywall.  This creates one of the best benefits of steel; no stress cracks or nail 'pop outs'. Steel arrives to the job site in the exact needed measurement which saves time and the cost to haul debris.
Cost savings for steel are almost too numerous to mention but some of the more apparent ones:
-manufactured to length (avoids high cost of any extra long framing components.  The bigger the beam, the more you save)
-save insurance costs for many families (not combustible, termites, mold and related wood deteriorating conditions, i.e. sagging and crumbling)
-utility installation, maintenance, and changes are easier and cheaper because the access in all pre cut and not done on the job site.
-steel framing can even save you money in later years if you want to expand your house.  Remodeling a steel framed house in infinately easier and outer walls can be reused because its a renewable resource.
Some final benefits:
-Doors and windows are less likely to 'stick' because the house isn't expanding and contracting like wood does when it rains.
-Steel absorbs sound and especially when it is combined with proper insulation.  Nothing like a quiet bedroom for the baby and privacy for the adults.
-Lastly, the air quality is better because steel does not need to be treated for bugs, mold or have residue of glue from laminates or adhesives.
Steel houses look exactly like wood houses when they are done.  You use steel for floors, exterior and interior load-bearing walls, partition walls, supports and roof rafters.  One final word...it doesn't destroy trees!  This will be the new greening of America.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How does the cost of light gage steel compare to wood framing?
Light gage steel framing compares very well with stick framing in cost.  Steel framing is frequently less expensive when compared to wood framing because steel takes less time to frame on site and thus reduces labor costs substantially.  In some cases little or no skiled labor is required to assemble the factory built steel frame walls.  The entire framing process is simpler and faster, saving time and money with light gage steel.
Does Steel Habitat, Inc. light gage steel meet building code requirements for load bearing walls?  Is Light gage steel ok with building department officials?
Steel Habitat, Inc. light gage steel framing is certified by ICBO-ICC-ES ER 5633 and that set of documents is used by government and municipal building officals as a means of determining which products are ok for the use in construction.  ICBO-ICC-ES is the benchmark for quality and acceptability in the construction industry.
Steel Habitat, Inc has experienced no difficulties in plan checks in Los Angeles County and City of Los Angeles.  Those two municipal plan check authorities LA County and LA City are the two strictest institutions on the Earth as far as their standards of approval and Steel Habitat, Inc. is proud to say we pass all necessary standards for Building code, engineering, and quality in the Steel Habitat, Inc - ICC-ES ER 5633 manufacture of track and studs for load bearing walls.
Is Steel Habitat, Inc. light gage steel easy to use?
Without exaggeration we at Steel Habitat, Inc can say that this framing system requires a minimum of skill and training to fabricate and or assemble, requiring the absolute minimum in skilled labor to frame, saving time and money.  Using Steel Habitat, Inc. easy to read plans and specifications an untrained person can, with a few hours instruction, build these walls and components without difficulty.  The Steel Habitat, Inc system is fast and easy to learn and fast and easy to assemble framing for any construction project.
